This nest is on top of the hydro meter at my parents’ place. Each year, for years now, there are often two broods of robins that call this nest home.
The nest is well placed. The birds are protected from rain, cats and squirrels. They are always greeted (and checked) by my father when he passes by doing yard work. When they learn to fly, they are watched vigilently by my mother who cheers mom and children on, particularly when one bird is a bit slower to catch on than the others.
For me this picture represents the cycles of life, the homes we share and the families whose lives we are part of. And, yes, it also is symbolic of the homes we may no longer live in but that are for us home "anyway"… like my parents’ house is for me. Too.
I am completely reassured knowing that my "launch" point continues to be a starting point for many. May this year’s family/ies fare well. |
